With the grants from the Economic and Development Administration, the existing artists studio at Hunters Point Shipyard will be renovated to include a multi-purpose space and a new artists lounge. The multi-purpose space will serve as a community-based meeting area, training area, exhibition gallery space for artists, and a auditorium. Due to the flexibility required to accommodate different types of event, a custom-design pivotal partition system is used to provide vertical wall space for exhibition. Besides using the system as a divider, it also blocks natural light from existing windows for audio and visual orientated event.
The proposed artists cafe is located at the interconnecting staircase area between Wing 3 and 4. It will serve as a informal social space for all artists of the Building 101. This project was collaborated with Levy Design Partners.
